ADRIFT
ADRIFT - 35 YEARS IN SEARCH OF CARP
A new book by Gareth Fareham
The book covers my 35 years in search of carp, focussing on the seasons between 2004 and 2022, and tells the story chronologically of how my angling life has played out - I've written about all the lovely times, and the tough ones too. It is a book about the search for big, beautiful carp, but it also ended up being about so much more than that.
My fishing has rarely followed a straight-forward path between targets and waters, and so instead I've wrote the chapters season to season, and given the real-life context and timescales to everything that has happened along the way, and how it all fitted into place. There is everything from periods of total obsession and immersion, to the failed missions and struggle, I've tried to tell it all. The title 'Adrift' simply relates to the idea of freedom, which for me is one of the greatest things that I think angling can offer.
The 496 pages, 180'000 words, and over 500 images cover my time spent at Argal, Coate Water, Petty Pool, Vinnetrow, Nutsey, Yateley, Dinton, Roach Pit, Pingewood, Mill Lane, Hollybush, Spinnaker, Flint, Stoneacres and more, as well as all the adventures in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and beyond, that wind their way through the years. I've also tucked four special guest chapters in there as well by close friends for a bit of extra spice - special carp from special lakes!
I've cherry picked the very best of my shots from over the years, chosen lots that haven't been used elsewhere or seen before and laid it all out with love and care.
It is printed here in the UK on the South Coast on a lovely quality FSC Certified sustainably sourced paper, using carbon neutral processes and environmentally friendly inks. Little things - but things that were important to me
